The original poster (OP), recalling the experience on Reddit, stated that in 2010, he was a trainee emergency medical technician (EMT). At the age of 27, he was contentedly wed to his spouse of two years, a career planner in the Marine Corps.

Their work schedules overlapped somewhat, but they had different days off. Because of his work, OP was able to take a day off and trade days with his trainees. He so left for work on his day off one day, forgetting that he had switched a day with another trainee.
