Miracle on Wheels: Bus Driver’s Compassion Leads to Adoption of Orphaned Child After Helping Woman in Labor
Bus Driver Takes Woman in Labor to Hospital, Adopts Her Orphaned Child Two Years Later— Story of the Day
When a pregnant woman goes into labor while riding the bus, a childless bus driver steps in to save her. Two years later, he takes a different route to take her to the hospital, never dreaming that she would change his life.

Bill had a fondness for kids and would always have a tiny candy box with him during his workday. He enjoyed giving goodies to the children who rode on his bus because he was a bus driver.
Bill found solace in the company of mischievous and chattering toddlers. It helped him forget he was childless and lessened his grief. His wife Julia’s health problems prevented her from becoming pregnant.
Bill lived in a tiny universe. He was alone with Coco, his dog, and his wife. He turned into the dependable presence Julia needed to get over her loss. He would often tell her, “God is watching over us, and He will surely answer our prayers one day.”

One day, Bill heard chaos on the bus while he was driving. “Driver, there is a pregnant woman on the bus,” a man abruptly rushed to him. I believe she is giving birth. Please take action!”
Startled, Bill realized he could not afford to lose any more time. There were just five or six people on board when he turned around. Pressing the gas pedal, he drove as quickly as he could.
There were just five stops to the closest hospital, and time was of the essence. Bill knew most of the shortcuts because he was a former cab driver. The woman was in excruciating pain, and a direct trip to the hospital would take thirty minutes.

“Miss, hold on! We’ll arrive on schedule! Hold on, please,” he said from the front.
Bill changed his route and accelerated, thinking his passengers would realize it was an emergency. He reached the hospital in ten minutes.
He said, “Jesus…thank you so much!” as the woman was led inside. Seated on the stretcher, she puffed and panted in agony.
A nurse yelled at Bill as he was ready to board the bus and depart, saying, “Excuse me, sir! She reported that her suitcase was left on the bus.
Bill got the woman’s handbag swiftly and handed it to the nurse before boarding the aircraft with the other passengers.
Bill had been concerned about the woman all day. Although he was happy to have gotten her to the hospital on time, he still wanted to

make sure she and her child were okay. A week later, he made the decision to see her.
“Are you going to visit that woman today?” Bill was asked by Julia as he was leaving for work. He had filled her in on every detail of their encounter from a week prior. “Please don’t leave without anything. Purchase a lovely item for the infant.”
With a kiss, Bill walked out. He visited the woman in the hospital after his shift ended. She was no longer at the hospital, but he found out her name was Sophia.
“She went out with her baby yesterday,” the nurse told Bill. He felt a little let down. For the baby, he had purchased a onesie and a cozy blanket.
He inquired, “Do you have her address?”

“Yes, one minute….”
Bill went to meet Sophia after writing down her address. As he got closer, he discovered that the address belonged to a homeless shelter. “She lives here?” he thought.
Despite his haste to meet Sophia and her infant, he emerged disappointed. She had moved out that morning, and no one knew where she had gone, it turned out.
Bill was unhappy when he got home. “I ought to have paid her a visit earlier. It’s my fault,” he complained.
Darling, don’t worry. Perhaps someone had come to get her. “Hopefully, she and her child are doing well now,” Julia reassured Bill.
The couple eventually forgot about Sophia and her child. Everything went back to normal until Bill observed something out of the ordinary when he boarded the bus one day, two years later. He noticed a woman fumbling with a heart-shaped necklace and found herself pulled to the photo of Sophia inside.

“Are you familiar with her? He questioned the woman, “Is her name Sophia?”
Indeed. The woman questioned, “But how do you know Sophia?” as Bill took the locket and peered intently at the photo.
“I will always remember that face…I can still picture her agonized scream that day. What’s up with her? I’m hoping all is okay with her and her child.”
Bill watched as the woman’s eyes began to well up with tears. He was caught off guard by the devastating news regarding Sophia and her child.
“My name is Cathy. “I work at an orphanage for children,” the woman remarked. “This locket is owned by Crystal, Sophia’s daughter. Tomorrow is her birthday. She only has this recollection of her deceased mother.
“Late mother?” Bill felt scared.

“Yes, a deadly illness claimed Sophia’s life last year. The water had claimed her spouse and their small home. She spent several months living in the homeless shelter when she was pregnant. She gave her baby up for adoption just before she passed away. Since then, Crystal has remained in the shelter because we haven’t been able to find her a suitable home.
Bill was astounded by what he heard. When Steve and Julia went to the shelter later that evening, they saw young Crystal with her caregiver.
Julia screamed, “She is adorable!” with tears of happiness shining in her eyes. It appeared as though happiness had finally illuminated the darkness in their lives. They brought new clothes and toys for Crystal. Since her birth, she had never received birthday presents before, until now.
Bill and Julia adopted Crystal six months later, and ever since then, they’ve had plenty of healthy excuses to smile and feel grateful. With their adoptive daughter, they began to celebrate their life and no longer felt guilty about not having children.

Bill held his small bundle of delight in his arms and exclaimed, “I told you…God watches over His children and always answers our prayers unexpectedly!”
What lessons may we draw from this tale?
