From Fired to Hired: Janitor Becomes Manager’s Boss the Next Day
‘Hey, You’re Fired, Old Man,’ Manager Informs Janitor, Not Knowing He’ll Be Her Boss the Next Day – Story of the Day
After receiving her most recent promotion at a store, a diligent woman becomes a demanding and impatient supervisor. Until she offends and dismisses an elderly janitor, she gets away with it.

Nia had just received a promotion to general manager at a significant department store for fashion. She was making significant changes within a week of taking on her new position, helped along by a binder full of ideas that she had gathered over the years.
Nia gave a morning speech to her employees.

“All right, gentlemen. “Is everyone aware of the new procedures we’ll be adhering to?” she inquired.
The group nodded and gave soft affirmations in response.
“I don’t want anyone deviating from my guidelines, so here’s what we are going to do,” she said. “Anybody who fails to follow the new rules — whether it is about uniform, customer greetings, display arrangements, punctuality — will lose their incentive for that month,” Nia said with a smile on her lips.
The personnel looked at one other anxiously. They feared for their lives as a result of Nia’s extreme tactics because even small errors could have dire consequences.

But Nia was valued by the squad despite her sudden metamorphosis. They were aware of her ascent from intern to executive roles and were impressed by her commitment to the fashion industry.
But with time, Nia’s strategy started to cause more and more issues. She responded brutally to minor mistakes and established unattainable goals. When she extended shifts and enforced severe restrictions, the workforce expressed mute frustration. Weekends, which used to be their only break, were now taken up with work. That wasn’t all, though.
The team was pushed to their limits by Nia’s tactics, which included restricting employee breaks and using sales people to lower loading costs. To make a favorable impression on consumers, she even restricted sick leave and outlawed sitting during shifts.

“We need to demonstrate to them that we never get weary of helping them. And always provide them a cheerful service. Do I understand correctly?” Nia gave a firm instruction. She was extremely happy with the way she was handling the situation.
Nia, who was raised by a single mother, had been turned down multiple times before being offered an internship at the clothing store. Her promotion came about as a result of her hard work and dedication to her career.
She was resolved to never go back to those difficult times as she gazed out of her office window at the street where she had previously looked for chances. The business was bustling with activity under her direction, but the staff found it difficult to keep up with the heavy workload and tight deadlines she assigned. Nia was content up until the point where the staff’ workload truly began to wear them down.

Her rigorous management eventually caused a sharp decline in sales, which went against her aspirational goals. She faced her worn-out employees, furious. “We’re losing viewers. At this rate, we’ll be ruined,” she cried out. “Do whatever it takes—extend your shifts, reduce the number of breaks you take! We must increase sales!”
Nia added more work since she was perplexed by the abrupt drop. She discovered saleswoman Maya dozing off on the counter one day following a heated client appointment.

“How dare you sleep during work??” Nia screamed.
Maya apologized after being shocked and terrified, but Nia was not amenable. She said, “Meet me in my office.” Already furious about the sales, Nia gathered the crew and took the opportunity to show off her power.
She immediately fired Maya and threw away her paycheck. The group was stunned, but they said nothing. They were aware of Maya’s weariness from her excessive workload, but would anyone dare challenge Nia? Their desire was to remain employed.
But 68-year-old Victor, a janitor, shouted up as Maya was leaving. He calmly said, “Nia, child, I’ve got something to say,” even though Nia was clearly irritated.

In an attempt to reason with her, Victor said, “We’re all happy to help with your vision, Nia.” “But maybe we could let go of the small mistakes…”
Outraged by his daring to speak, Nia interrupted him. Victor, that’s enough! “Are you implying that I haven’t observed your tardiness and extended lunch breaks?” she shot back. “And let’s not forget how you arrive late daily!”
“Nia, there’s a reason why I’ve been coming later than the others…”
Nia was shocked that the older man had cut her off once more. She made the decision to step up and set a firm example after noticing that the other staff members were staring at her and waiting to see how she would respond.

“It makes no difference why! “People, let this be an example,” Nia remarked. “I’ll terminate anyone who makes excuses while I’m in charge. Hey, old man, you’re fired! You can now wander off with Maya!”
With tears in their eyes, the rest of the staff watched in dismay as Maya and Victor walked out in silence. Everyone was shocked at the new depth of Nia’s brutality.
Victor’s employment at the business was ending, but the following day brought a surprise.
The multimillionaire chain’s owner, Mr. Gordon, called in an impromptu visit to his store to discuss the abrupt drop in sales.
“Good morning to all of you! How are things going?” Mr. Gordon questioned every worker.
A worker said, “It could’ve been much better,” and other employees nodded.
“What’s going on? Don’t you all become thrilled about the upcoming Christmas season?” Mr. Gordon made a query.
Another worker said, “Miss Ferguson only allowed two days off, but some of us wanted an extended Christmas break.”
Mr. Gordon summoned Nia to his office after gaining a partial understanding of the situation.

“Miss Ferguson, we no longer make nearly as much money. What took place? He questioned, “Do you need help?” as they were seated across from one another.
Nia criticized the employees, saying they were indolent and required constant supervision.
“I see.Did we not have the same “lazy” crew with us for the past month? However, everything had much improved. I don’t know why they are now becoming sluggish when we haven’t hired anyone recently.”
Nia was given a month by Mr. Gordon to make things better. He inquired about Victor, the caretaker, as he was leaving.
“Where is Victor at this time? He said, “I didn’t see him today.”
With hesitation, Nia said, “He was fired for being too old to work and for being late.”
Mr. Gordon was taken aback. “How come? Are you aware that you dismissed this store’s co-owner?”

Nia was taken aback. “The joint proprietor? He’s simply a janitor, though!”
Mr. Gordon told a tale from his early years. I still don’t know exactly what occurred that day, but according to my father, I nearly got hit by a car while running after an ice cream van. While Victor was emptying the trash, he noticed me and came to my aid. He shoved me away, save my life, but after getting struck by the car, he ended up in intensive care.
“This store’s original owner, my father, offered him a stake in the company. When my dad wanted to give Victor something, you know what he said? “I simply carried out the duties that any normal person would.” My father persisted in convincing Victor to accept the offer to become a co-owner, but with one caveat. that his job would be janitorial.”
He went on, “Victor lost his wife and child during childbirth and considered the staff here his family.”
Then Mr. Gordon made a shocking revelation. “You have to give Victor an apology. Tomorrow he’ll be taking over this unit. Victor gets to choose whether or not I should dismiss you when I return.

Nervous and terrified for her career, Nia drove to see Victor, anxious about confronting him and the obstacles that were ahead. “How can I increase sales in a given month? How am I going to confront Victor? It’s also his fault. Why did he simply leave without introducing himself to me? Everything is against me right now. How am I going to proceed?” She was anxious.
Nia was taken aback by Victor’s small home’s simplicity upon arriving, even though he co-owned a successful company. When she knocked, Victor greeted her cordially and extended an invitation for apple pie.
“You would come, Mr. Gordon informed me. “Please, feel at ease,” Victor murmured, oblivious to her earlier behavior.
Nia felt uncomfortable in this lowly place. Sensing her discomfort, Victor started discussing the business philosophy of Mr. Gordon’s father.

“He prioritized his staff, unlike others. In addition to giving out bonuses, corporate parties, weekend off, and nap rooms, he also made sure that his clients didn’t mistreat them. Victor clarified that he “treated employees like family.”
Nia, half aware of what had gone wrong, nodded hesitantly. However, how does that support the expansion of the company? How will workers be able to focus without interruptions if they receive such benefits? “Don’t they think it’s a given?” she questioned.
Victor grinned. “When workers are passionate about what they do, they deliver exceptional customer service, delighting clients and expanding the company. A savvy manager discovers ways to inspire loyalty in their staff. He does not let them go.”
While Victor ravenously gobbled up his pie, he asked Nia to remind Maya to return to work. Nia, you might never know how fate treats other people. Initially hired as an intern, you rose to the position of general manager. You never know what a straightforward salesgirl like Maya might be capable of. Never undervalue or pass judgment on somebody based only on their appearance or occupation!”

Nia smiled, and Victor stopped her as she was about to walk away. “Nia, don’t worry. I’m not going to fire you. However, we will vote on it later in conjunction with all of the staff members and Mr. Gordon, okay?”
Convinced that there was still hope, Nia went back to the shop and called all of the staff members into her office. They were terrified of the additional regulations she would put on them. However, none of them had anticipated witnessing what was going to happen next.
“Good day, everyone!” Nia smiled as she started. Since the day of her promotion, she had never welcomed them with a grin, so everyone found it peculiar.
“I would like to tell everyone that Victor, the company’s co-owner, will be heading us from tomorrow!”
The information stunned the staff members. A few of them were unaware that their employer was also the store’s caretaker.

“Guys, don’t be surprised! I made blunders because I am a young person and fresh to this trade. I sincerely hope that everyone will pardon me for the events of the past several days. When Maya and Victor return tomorrow, we’ll work together as a team. Is that understood correctly?
Nia took Victor’s advise and applied Mr. Gordon’s father’s values starting the following day. She did not abuse her power over her staff; instead, she treated them with respect. She gave them greater consideration and ensured that each worker enjoyed their position.
Days went by, and Nia’s efforts paid off. As Nia had hoped, the staff began to give it their all, and the following quarter’s sales soared with flawless outcomes.

Mr. Gordon chose not to terminate Nia since he was pleased with her efforts and Victor. After five years, Nia received a promotion to CEO of all the stores.
Victor, on the other hand, decided to continue working as a janitor since he enjoyed his job.
