Prince William led the viewers of Apple’s Time to Walk series on a tour of Sandringham Estate, one of his father King Charles’s royal mansions, in December 2021.

William talked about his favorite songs that bring back happy memories from his youth to the present, when strolling around the grounds and sharing recollections with others.

His mother, Princess Diana, and the music she played for him and Prince Harry to calm their nerves before returning to school are two of those precious childhood memories.

He still listens to the late Tina Turner song, The Best, to help him remember his mother.

“Harry and I attended boarding school together when we were younger. Prince William stated, “My mother used to play all kinds of tunes to kind of while away the nervousness of coming back to school.

“And Tina Turner’s “The Best” is one of the songs that I really remember, has stuck with me through the years, and I still, to this day, quite enjoy in secret because, when we sat in the backseat and sang along, it felt like a true family moment.”

And Princess Diana would lead the chorus in singing.

Additionally, my mother would be singing loudly while driving. William added, “We would even get the policeman in the car, and he would occasionally be singing along, too.

“You would be singing and listening to the music right out into the gates of the school, when they dropped you off,” the future monarch said. And at that point, when you were lost in tunes before, it kind of hit home that you were actually returning to school. To preserve that family time, you’ll want to play it again.

“Now that I’m listening to it again, it reminds me of those car rides and a lot of my mother.”

William adds that he now makes unique music moments with his own children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, who turns six on April 23, by incorporating those priceless memories into his own parenting approach.

Every morning, Charlotte and George get into a heated argument over what song should be played first. The king remarked, “And I have to, like, prioritize that one day someone does this one, and another day it’s someone else’s time. George thus receives his turn, and Charlotte follows suit. The demand for the song is so great.

The Prince went on to say that “Waka Waka” by Shakira was one of the songs his kids were really like at the time.

“Optimal drink for a Monday morning”
William chose “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC as his third music, claiming it’s a fantastic tune to get you moving.

He said, “There’s nothing better than listening to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” on a Monday morning when you’re trying to get back into the grind after the weekend and a little sleepy-eyed.”

“I have to admit, the first time I put it on—and I’ve heard it a million times by now—I kind of thought, ‘Well, this is quite heavy for a Monday morning.'” William went on. I listen to it now, though, and it’s the perfect pick-me-up for a Monday morning.

It really does wake you up, makes the most of your week, and gives you the confidence to take on anything and everyone.

You’re probably going to walk quickly while listening to it, maybe even hopping up and down and head-banging. It’s hard not to nod or dance along to this tune.

Prince William’s fond recollections of Tina Turner are “just the best!”
