Former ‘ALF’ Child Star Benji Gregory Dies at 46
Benji Gregory, the renowned performer from the 1980s sitcom “ALF,” passed away at the age of 46. Gregory played Brian Tanner. Heatstroke was considered to be the cause of death when Gregory and his service dog were discovered dead in his car on June 13.

Benjamin Gregory Hertzberg, better known by his professional name Benji Gregory, was found unconscious and unconscious in his car. That day’s 109 degree heat index in Peoria, Arizona, claimed the lives of both him and his service dog.

After starting his acting career in 1984, Gregory shot to fame in 1986 when he played Brian Tanner in “ALF,” a character he played for the whole length of the television program. Gregory gave up acting in 1993, despite his early success.

Gregory was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 26, 1978, into a family with a strong background in show business. His grandmother acted as his agent, while his father, sister, and uncle were all performers. After starring in “The A-Team” episode “Hot Styles,” he went on to act in “T.J. Hooker,” “Punky Brewster,” and “Amazing Stories.”

Gregory had two film credits in addition to his television work: “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” (1986) and “Once Upon a Forest” (1993), the latter of which was his last on-screen performance. Because of his early start in the entertainment industry and the long-lasting effect of his role in “ALF,” Gregory became well-known to a large number of 1980s TV viewers.

Even though Gregory was successful in the movies, he had serious personal issues. He struggled from melancholy, bipolar disorder, and a sleep problem that frequently prevented him from getting any sleep for days at a time, according to his older sister Rebecca Hertzberg-Pfaffinger. His premature passing might have been influenced by these mental health issues. Gregory’s sister revealed that on June 12, he had gone to a Chase Bank in Peoria to deposit checks before dozing off in his vehicle. It was a fatal day because of the intense heat.

Following his acting retirement, Gregory looked for other opportunities. After pursuing his education, he eventually enlisted in the US Navy, serving as an aerographer’s mate. But health problems ended his navy career, and in 2005 he was honorably discharged medically. Gregory got married in 2006 and moved into a more exclusive community away from the spotlight.

Although the official cause of death has not yet been disclosed by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office, heatstroke is highly suspected in light of the circumstances.

The grief that fans and former colleagues have shown for Gregory’s passing is overwhelming. His journey from child star to military service is a monument to his adaptability and resilience. His portrayal of Brian Tanner in “ALF” left an unforgettable impression on television history. Many people have shared their recollections of Gregory’s performances and condolences on social media.

Benji Gregory’s legacy will live on thanks to his profound influence on 1980s television and his immortal part in “ALF.” His wife and family, who are grieving the death of a cherished son, brother, and spouse, survive him. Peace be with you, Benji Gregory.
