Shannen Doherty’s Heartbreaking Accusation: Ex Hoped She’d Die Before Divorce

Before Death, Shannen Doherty Accused Ex of Stalling Divorce, Claiming He Was Waiting for Her to Die – Details

When Shannen Doherty married her photographer ex-husband for the third time, she thought it would be the lucky number.
However, the actress made startling revelations on her estranged husband’s harsh divorce strategies while she had illness.
According to court records, her ex purposefully postponed the divorce and disclosed the startling purported motive for his behavior.

Following a protracted and valiant fight with breast cancer, beloved actress Shannen Doherty, well known for her iconic roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” sadly passed away at the age of 53. Doherty, who became well-known for her roles as Brenda Walsh in “90210” and Prue Halliwell in “Charmed,” was given a breast cancer diagnosis more than ten years ago. Although the cancer had gone into remission in 2015, it came back in 2017 and eventually spread to her brain. Doherty shared her experience with fans and raised awareness of cancer while battling her illness with remarkable bravery and openness.

After receiving a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, Shannen Doherty discovered she was going to file for divorce. After an agonizing betrayal, what started out as a lovely love story apparently ended in a harsh split.

When the actress claimed that her divorced spouse was deliberately delaying their divorce, things became worse. More information about the incident was provided by court records, which included the startling claim that Shannen Doherty’s husband was attempting to evade his financial duties to his dying wife.

Their Tale of Love

Doherty tied the knot with her fiancé Kurt Iswarienko in Malibu at dusk in October 2011. PEOPLE has verified that the dinner was a black-tie occasion hosted at a private house in the picturesque hills. Doherty was getting married for the third time.

The actress previously wed Rick Salomon and Ashley Hamilton. But this time, the actress felt hopeful. She thought she would stick with it.

Almost a year before the wedding, she shared her more experienced viewpoint on marriage in an interview with PEOPLE. “Being married is such a huge commitment that I would never consider getting married again. “I’ve come to my senses,” Doherty said.

In 2016, five years after getting married, Doherty posted a touching old photo from their big day. The duo is seen holding hands in the picture, and Doherty is grinning broadly.

“We accepted my friend @sarahmgellar’s gentle challenge to complete the seven-day #loveyourspousechallenge with @kurtiswarienko! Part of the description was, “She was telling me about going through old photos and the memories and emotions they evoke.”

“Kurt has supported me during my illness and gives me a greater sense of love than before. I would follow this man along any route. To defend him, take any bullet for him and slay any dragon. My soul match is him. My other half. The Instagram post ended with, “I am blessed.”

2019 saw Doherty provide yet another look into her romantic relationship with Iswarienko, following a few years of separation. The actress returned to Instagram, sharing a cute photo of herself with her spouse, a photographer.

“My best friend’s visit made my happy place more better. I adore this man beyond measure. He understands me. I understand him. It is never due to boredom. His brilliance, wit, and talent never cease to amaze me. His love and support always make me feel better,” Doherty said as part of the post’s caption.

An Opposition to Cancer

Doherty received heartbreaking news in February 2015. It had been determined that she had breast cancer. The actress publicly discussed her ordeal by 2016 and said that the cancer had progressed to her lymph nodes.

This was the start of a challenging struggle for the actress. She had already received three of the eight cycles of chemotherapy that were scheduled for her by August 2016. Doherty also had a unilateral mastectomy in May of 2016. Plans for radiation treatment came after the chemotherapy.

Doherty’s cancer reached stage 4 in 2019 despite these intensive therapies. Doherty described the agonizing moment she told her spouse about her illness. “I made the terrible mistake of calling him. When the doctor called, my mom and I were in the car,” Doherty said.

The actress couldn’t wait to break the news to Iswarienko because she was so filled with emotion. “His immediate response was, ‘Where are you?'” Doherty remembered. When the actress got home, Iswarienko was waiting for her in the driveway, willing to give her his undying support.

We’ll get through this, he comforted her as he gave her a hug. It will be alright for you. You’re powerful and strong, and you’re not going anywhere, so together, we can overcome this. You have a ton of things in your life to do. Our family will persevere through it.”

Doherty had a solid support network around him throughout this trying time. Her mother, closest friends, and spouse were among them. “I’m so glad she’s here. My mom is like a Steel Magnolia, and she is very strong,” Doherty remarked.

Regretfully, not long after, the actress’s father—who had watched her participate on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2010—died of a stroke. Doherty said, looking back on her father, “I think about my dad all the time. In addition, He finds it unbearable that his daughter is experiencing this. It’s challenging.”

Even though Doherty’s diagnosis was serious, she continued to have optimism for the future. The actress hoped to become a mother and had hope that she would survive cancer. “Perhaps after [chemo], there’s a chance,” she answered. But Doherty wanted to be genuine about her age and health.

“My spouse says, ‘Let’s just get you healthy.’ We’ve talked about it. The actress added, “Let’s focus on you and once you get healthy and you’re OK, then let’s adopt.” The couple’s experience with IVF was likewise challenging.

Doherty conceded that it was difficult to keep a cheerful attitude, though. “At first, I thought, ‘I’m strong. I can handle this! Subsequently, as time progressed, I began to believe that I might not survive,” she acknowledged.

Doherty related an incident in which she looked up at Iswarienko while they were dining at an Italian restaurant in Brooklyn and remarked, “You better enjoy every single second that you have with me…’cause I’m going to be dead in five years.”

“He suddenly broke down in tears and said, ‘You can’t say that.'”Thank goodness, that era was brief. I believe my friends and family helped me get through that brief but intense moment,” the actress said.

Doherty’s marriage became even more solid over this arduous voyage. Without my hubby, I would not have been able to go through this. Although it has strengthened my marriage tenfold, it was always solid. He has never skipped a dose of chemotherapy. Says Doherty, “He’s never skipped a sick day.”

The Excruciating Breakup

The news of Doherty and Iswarienko’s separation surfaced in April 2023. Doherty filed for divorce, according to reports, ending their 11-year marriage.

This event, which put an agonizing and public end to their long-term love, apparently came after months of internal strife. As to the records acquired by TMZ, the pair hasn’t been together since January 2023.

Leslie Sloane, Doherty’s agent, offered a gloomy explanation of the actress’s choice. The last thing Shannen wanted was a divorce. Sadly, she believed there was nothing else she could do “Sloane said.

Sloane further claimed that Iswarienko’s representative was “intimately involved” in the separation agreements. This made an already challenging situation much more problematic. “Irreconcilable differences” were stated as the cause of the separation in the divorce documents.

Iswarienko’s adultery was exposed in the inaugural installment of Doherty’s podcast, “Let’s Be Clear: This Is Only The Beginning.” The “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress opened up about how she found out about her husband’s treachery.

It was right before having a brain tumor surgically removed. “I went into that surgery early in the morning after I found out that my marriage was essentially over,” Doherty said. The two-year affair that Iswarienko had been having was revealed. She was deeply devastated by the revelation.

“At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years,” she said. Doherty added that her mother, brother, and closest friends were present during her surgery. Her husband was not with her.

The actress said on her podcast that she got “obsessed.” Her obsession was learning the whole truth about her husband’s extramarital affair. After 14 years together, she claimed that the need for honesty drove her unrelenting search for answers.

“If you share 14 years together and you cheated, doesn’t that person deserve the absolute truth regardless of how much that hurts them?” She asked. Doherty went on to say that she even had a direct conversation with Iswarienko’s mistress.

Nevertheless, the actress acknowledged that she first found it difficult to end the relationship in spite of the betrayal. The strain of her operation combined with her emotional state made things more difficult. “I was really perplexed. I have a lot of memories with this person, therefore yes, I made the decision to file for divorce,” Doherty said.

Startling Claims

Doherty proceeded to file for divorce despite her initial uncertainty. Later, the actress filed more lawsuits. In the midst of her divorce procedures, she asked for spousal assistance.

Documents show that Doherty requested $15,343 per month in spousal support. This action was accompanied by sharp criticism of Iswarienko’s extravagant spending patterns. In documents, the actress described the financial disparity between her and Iswarienko.

The actress said in 2023, “Kurt’s average annual earnings for the last three years of marriage was $672,916.” Doherty allegedly made $259,708 a year on average during his final three years of marriage. Doherty went into further detail about her revenue sources.

“The television program “Charmed” provides the lion’s share of my residual income. It has come to my attention that on June 30, 2024, “Charmed” will be unavailable for viewing on any major streaming service. My future residual income would thus drop significantly,” the actress disclosed.

What exacerbated the financial hardship was Doherty’s high monthly expenses. They are more than $54,600. The actress went on to say that her health prevented her from working. She would therefore shortly lose her SAG health insurance. Her medical expenditures would go up dramatically as a result of this.

Doherty made the shocking admission that she believed Iswarienko was purposefully holding up the divorce procedures. They said this in the hopes that she would pass away before a settlement could be reached.

“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” the previous “90210” star stated in a petition from June 2024.

For her, Doherty’s court filings provided a clear picture of the circumstances. “It is not hard to describe or separate our assets. It shouldn’t be difficult for us to divorce. “It is quite evident to me that Kurt is purposefully withholding settlement in the hopes that I won’t make it through the divorce process,” the actress said.

Proceeding Forward

After announcing her divorce, Doherty started a new phase of her life. This was a chapter full of purpose and introspection. She started her podcast in 2023. The actress was able to share details about her lengthy Hollywood career on this site.

Additionally, it gave Doherty the chance to discuss her current battle with breast cancer and the insightful lessons she’s learned from her previous relationships. The actress made it clear that her podcast will not include any secrets.

As an alternative, it would serve as a “memoir of the past, present, and future.” Listeners to Doherty’s podcast would get an open and reflective peek into her life. The actress aggressively promoted breast cancer awareness in addition to her podcast.

Doherty used her social media networks, participation in events, and multiple TV appearances to promote important information about the illness. At conventions, Doherty also reconnected with her co-stars from “Charmed” and “Beverly Hills, 90210”.

“Depression has no place at all when I’m working or being creative. It gives me energy. I’m really thrilled when I work,” Doherty said. In June 2023, Doherty posted a heartfelt video of herself on Instagram. She was getting ready for her January brain surgery when she appeared in the video.

It said, in part, “This is what cancer can look like.” A candid and unvarnished look into the realities of living with cancer was provided by Doherty’s essay. It was a component of her continuous campaign to inform and educate her fans about the illness.

In March 2024, Doherty shared another memory as part of her ongoing endeavor to document her trip. This post was a reflection of her big surgery day. The actress captioned a portion of the photo, saying, “I didn’t ask nearly enough questions, fear and too much going on just seized me.”

Doherty maintained her faith in love in spite of her three unsuccessful marriages. This hope was inspired by her parents’ long-lasting marriage. Her father’s passing tragically split her parents apart. Her mother, though, kept her wedding ring on.

Shannen Doherty’s tenacity and willpower are a potent demonstration of her strength. Her attempts to increase cancer awareness as well as her thoughts on love build a picture of a lady who persevered in her advocacy, growth, and hopeful path.

Peace be with you, Shannen.
