Romance at the Paris Games: Two Olympians Propose to Their Girlfriends—Prepare to Be Moved by These Photos
Two Olympians Propose to Their Girlfriends During Paris Games: Photos That Bring Tears to Eyes
During the worldwide competition, two Olympic athletes proposed to their girlfriends. Videos and images of the emotional, lovely, tearful moments were recorded and have been circulated on the internet.

Paris demonstrated on Friday, August 2, why it is referred to as the “city of love.” Chinese badminton player Liu Yuchen proposed to Huang Ya Qiong, a fellow badminton player, by getting down on one knee during the Olympics in Paris. On August 5, American shot putter Payton Otterdahl also asked Maddy Nilles to marry him.
Riding high after winning the first gold medal in badminton at the Olympic Games in Paris alongside her teammate Zheng Siwei, Huang had no idea that she would emerge from the competition as a newly engaged woman.
Liu shocked Huang with a stunning engagement ring after defeating Republic of Korea players Seo Seungjae and Chae Yujung 21-8 and 21-11 in the mixed doubles match.
Following the medal ceremony, Liu appeared to congratulate the gold medal winner while she was strolling around the arena, greeting and waving at supporters. Liu had brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers with her.

Liu moved as he was surrounded by the enthusiastic applause of the La Chapelle Arena spectators. In a video uploaded to TikTok, Huang is seen crying and looking very emotional when she is asked for her hand in marriage.
Huang consented to marry Liu after overcoming her first shock, and Liu kissed her hand and carefully placed the diamond engagement ring on her ring finger.
Following a heartfelt embrace, Liu took Huang’s hand and held it up for the flashing cameras while the couple posed for pictures.
Huang said, swooning over her victory and unexpected engagement, “It’s hard to put into words how thrilled I feel. A gold medal is a testament to our journey. I took aback at the engagement ring.”
She went on to say, “I’ve been concentrating on my training to win an Olympic medal. It was not what I had anticipated.” Huang continued by saying that she hasn’t yet considered how she will mark the happy occasion.

Excitedly, Huang and Liu boasted about their commitment to one another on their personal Instagram pages. In one photo that Liu shared, Huang held out her hand to display her new ring as the couple posed for a photo during the ceremony.
Another had a cute cartoon depiction of him proposing to Huang on display. The Mandarin-written caption that goes with picture reads, “2024.8.2 Olympic mixed doubles champion she said she would! 💍 💍.
Huang posted a sweet proposal as a carousel post with nine photographs. Huang also shared pictures of her fiancé holding the ring box open for her and putting the ring on her finger, in addition to the cover image that Liu shared.
She also posted pictures of the ring up close and other intimate moments between the two. Huang wrote, “I said yes💍 Thanks for making my day ❤️ @liuyuchen88888,” in the caption.
Huang has published several posts since becoming engaged, emphasizing how much she and Liu are looking forward to getting married.
Huang posted a compilation video of Liu and her posing for pictures in front of the Eiffel Tower on August 4. Yuchen held a bouquet of white flowers, and she wore a white veil. Huang said, “It’s getting real 🥰,” in reference to the video.
Huang posted a second video of her and Liu’s Paris picture shoot on TikTok later that same day, August 4. After giving Liu a deep lip-kiss, Huang can be seen in the video giving her cheek after kissing her passionately.

Alongside Liu and Huang, Team USA shot putter Payton Otterdahl and his fiancée Maddy Nilles are also newly engaged couples who met during the Olympics.
Otterdahl proposed to Nilles while they were on the streets of Paris and in front of the Eiffel Tower. The Olympian took to Instagram to post a series of charming pictures depicting the moment he proposed to Nilles.

Nilles’s big smile and enthusiastic body language convey her excitement, which is evident through the screen. Wearing casual attire and unperturbed by onlookers, Otterdahl made a lifelong commitment to his sweetheart.

With a swoon-worthy caption that declared his undying love for Nilles, Otterdahl wrote, “In the meantime, in the City of Love. Maddy Nilles, you have my undying love! @maddynilles27 ❤️.”

Otterdahl demonstrated his physical prowess in the shot put event at the Paris Games, placing fourth in the first round, prior to popping the question. He lost out to Rajindra Campbell and Joe Kovacs by 0.88 meters, which almost put him in third place.

Although Otterdahl feels differently, fourth place is probably not terrible. “That’s just fourth place truth; it doesn’t feel nice. Although I’m not happy with the performance, I accept the situation. We were close, but not close enough, so I wish we could have won,” he said.

Otterdahl at least has something interesting to look forward to with his new engagement, regardless of how he feels about his previous performance. Huang, Liu, Nilles, and him all deserve congratulations! We hope the best for both couples as they embark on their journeys together.
