I Walked up to My Groom at the Altar – All of a Sudden, a Woman in White Dress Appeared behind His Back

Following a half-year romance, Chris pops the question to Beth. His excited family jumps into the wedding plans, but when they see unconventional things on the schedule, Beth decides to call off her wedding. This is her story:

This year, Chris, my boyfriend, took me to Hawaii for my 25th birthday.

We’d just been dating for six months, so I wasn’t anticipating anything, so it was a fairytale. However, once Chris asked me to marry him on the beach, I accepted, carried away by the magic of the occasion, even though I felt that getting to know someone for just six months was insufficient before getting married.

I had no idea that this fairytale would turn into more drama than I had bargained for.
I wasn’t one of those girls who daydreamed about getting married for hours on end.

I therefore gave in when Chris’s family, driven by their excitement and participation, assumed total control over every aspect of the wedding, including offering to pay for it.

I’ll admit that there were times when I felt left out, particularly when I mentioned that I wasn’t a fan of the color scheme’s blue tones.

However, fostering their enthusiasm was preferable to arguing with them.

When the big day finally came, I felt totally at ease since I knew that Chris’s mother and sister had taken care of everything. My father was the only member of my family who didn’t play a significant part because we weren’t close.
His mother Leeanne murmured, “Beth,” as she was doing my hair. “I want you to walk down the aisle with your eyes closed.”

“What? Why not?” I cried out, picturing me tripping over something as I went.

“I can barely walk properly in these heels with my eyes open,” I said with a grin.

“That’s just custom,” Leeanne remarked. “I also completed it. The key to the whole process is to see your spouse first, to emerge from the shadows first.”

Maggie, Chris’s sister, chuckled, “He’s supposed to be the light,”

Everything sounded weird together. Although it was something I had never heard of before, I was also aware that people were continually making up myths and superstitions.

“I wouldn’t have to wear a blindfold and mess up my make-up, right?” I enquired.

“No, just close your eyes and hold onto your father’s hand tightly,” Leeanne replied.

My father laughed when I told him what I had to do because he thought I was kidding.
That was ridiculous, of course. However, things only got worse throughout my wedding.

When I opened my eyes at the altar, I expected to see my fiancé’s loving stare, but I ended up getting considerably more than I had anticipated.

Chris gave me a smile, and a moment later, I was startled by what I saw: a white-dressed woman standing behind him.

His expression left me wondering if he realized she was there. I was curious about her identity, but the whispers surrounding me disclosed that she was Julia, Chris’s first wife.

“Chris, what’s happening?” I pointed to Julia and muttered. My voice was hardly audible above the gasps from everyone else.
But before Chris or I could even begin to make sense of this strange turn of events, Leeanne came walking down the aisle while clutching the hand of a small kid. All heads turned to watch them.

Subsequently, Julia moved ahead and extended her arms, welcoming the youngster within.

“This is Eli,” she stated, glancing at me. “He has autism and is six years old. Though he’s part of Chris, he’s also the best part of me. This is our son, Elizabeth.”

Maggie, a bridesmaid of mine, added up, “But he wouldn’t tell you that,” from beside me.

“Did you know about Eli?” Maggie enquired.
I gave a headshake. Emotion had taken hold of the air. The whole crowd was staring at me, but I was staring at Chris, wanting anything—any explanation, any justification, any denial—to help.

However, none was present. Rather, with obvious remorse on his face, he hurriedly fiddled with his watch.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” With a trembling voice, I demanded.

He avoided making eye contact as he stumbled, “I didn’t know how.”

I glanced across at Eli, who was staring around the room while clinging to Julia’s hand. Chris’s features were all very visible to me.

“You let me believe that your divorce was admirable and that there were no ties to Julia,” I replied. “But you left your family behind. You forsook your son.”

“After learning that Eli had autism, he left him,” Maggie yelled.

My heart fell. How could I have let such callousness and coldness into my life? Because of something he was born with, he left his son behind.

I felt like I was drowning under the weight of it all when the truth came to light. Leeanne had planned this spectacular reveal after learning that Chris intended to be married again.
“Elizabeth, you’re too young,” she stated. “You’re not old enough to get entangled in his chaos. Julia took care of herself and Eli because he was unable to look after her. Though Chris has let me down in a lot of ways, nothing will make up for the abuse he inflicted on his own child.”

My wedding turned out to be nothing more than a severe, public warning to a guy who had abandoned his duties.

I gave them to Maggie, kicked off my heels, and left the altar not as a bride but as a woman who had just about escaped a life of lies.

Even though I had only known Chris for six months, the experience was nevertheless difficult since I knew that my feelings for him were genuine. That’s why learning the truth pained me so much.

I gave myself some time to myself in the aftermath. Traveling and experiencing life while I was still young was important to me. Before I knew who I wanted to be with, I needed more terrible dates and failed romances.

All I knew was that I wanted no part of being with someone like Chris. a father who had falsely claimed to have a son, who was autistic and so invisible to him.

I’m just thankful that my wedding dress, which was returned three days after the alleged wedding, was the only item I had to pay for.

Even today, when I reflect on the entire episode, I have to say that I’m not upset about anything. Leeanne fulfilled her obligations. She took that action to keep that adorable young boy and me safe.
