5-Year-Old Boy Survives Dog Attack but Faces Heartbreaking Reactions from Strangers

Boy, 5, survives savage attack by two dogs only to be called a ‘monster’ in public

Every parent’s worst came true for Brittany in 2015 when her baby was only 21 months old. Her baby boy Ryder was savagely assaulted by two Rottweilers when she was spending Thanksgiving with relatives. Although he amazingly escaped the incident, his face was permanently disfigured.

Despite everything that has happened to him, six years later, he is publicly referred to as a “monster.” Now, his mother is stepping up to let people know how damaging their words may be.

Thanksgiving 2015 changed Ryder’s and his mother Brittany’s lives. Ryder, who was only two years old at the time, was attacked by two Rottweilers weighing close to 100 pounds.

Ryder lost three-quarters of his lip, the bottom of his eyelid, and his entire right cheek in the attack. His right lung was perforated, his arm was broken, and his teeth were crushed by the hounds. His family was afraid he wouldn’t make it. But miraculously, he did. Sadly, in addition to numerous other physical wounds, the assault left his face permanently deformed. (1)

“It happened really fast. Mom Brittany remarked, “We were at a friend’s house and they had a dog lap that was roughly the size of the dogs.” Ryder kept going to his toys and returning for bacon while we were eating breakfast, and then he vanished.

He was lying face down in the garden when I peered out the window. He was just wearing a sleeve because his pyjamas had been torn off. His face was completely gone by the time we lifted him up and rolled him.

Animal control removed the dogs and put them down that same day. Brittany continued by saying that they are still unsure of the precise circumstances. Ryder had previously been around the dogs, and everything had gone smoothly.

The doctors questioned whether Ryder would survive at all. They warned her that if he did, he might become paralyzed because of the depth of the bite to his head.

Ryder has been in operating rooms for more than 70 hours since that awful day six years ago.

In addition to reconstructing his face, doctors have tried their utmost to mend fractured bones and damaged bodily parts. Until he reaches adulthood, they will continue to do procedures. Ryder still lacks what one could call a “normal” face in spite of all of these attempts. (2)

Harsh Remarks From Outsiders

In his brief life, Ryder has experienced a lot, and he has been a true trooper through it all.

Young Ryder has bravely battled and exceeded expectations, despite his doctors’ warnings that he would have difficulty learning to eat and drink. According to his mother Brittany, strangers may still be incredibly harsh, even after everything he has been through.

People will say hurtful things to them while they’re out on the street or running errands. On the playground, kids will cry “monster!” and point at him before fleeing.

It was terrible at first as even adults would look. He underwent two failed skin transplants, so for the first year he had no face on one side,” she explained. “A child yells “monster” at him and points at him as we walk to the park, then flees. Someone yelled “ew” at him while he was out shopping the other day.

Bullying Causes Pain

Given that her son is entering school, Brittany is understandably rather worried about him. She worries that because he appears different, children will treat him cruelly. She is now speaking out against bullying, as well as cruel remarks and gazing that you might or might not believe they can hear.

He doesn’t speak much even though he is aware that others are talking about him. In addition to wearing a cap and spectacles, he occasionally hangs his head to conceal his face, she claimed. “In order to lessen the impact on him, I strive to handle it better. But every day I simply remind him that he is lovely, that being different is beautiful, and that it’s okay to be different.

She naturally wants her child to have friends and be accepted. The other children were informed about Ryder before he started kindergarten. In this manner, they wouldn’t be as shocked. However, there will always be one or two children who will be cruel no matter what.

A Life That Was Never the Same

Nowadays, Ryder has to deal with several difficulties that most people never encounter. He has triumphed over many of them. Doctors said that he would never be able to eat normally because of his damaged mouth and only eight teeth.

They tried to give Ryder a special cup and a pureed food, but he refused both and learnt to eat and drink by himself. Like everyone else, he consumes everything these days.

In addition, Ryder has a wonderful group of friends that treat him like everyone else and encourage him. Their town’s residents are familiar with him and greatly contribute to his self-assurance. He will never look the same, though.
