What Happened When I Followed My Fiancé on His Business Trip – A Shocking Revelation
I Followed My Fiancé on His Sudden Business Trip Right Before Our Wedding and Discovered the Heartbreaking Truth — Story of the Day
Robert, my fiancé, revealed to me two days prior to my wedding that he had to take an unexpected trip. When a call from his boss didn’t make sense, I followed him because something didn’t feel right. I wasn’t prepared for what I found, which made me doubt love, trust, and the man I was going to marry.

I couldn’t help but worry that I might never get married when I hit thirty. I was concerned that love had moved on. However, I was only two days away from getting married.
It had the feel of a dream. Robert, the man who had captured my heart and taught me the true meaning of love, and I were ready to embark on a new chapter in our relationship. Robert was intelligent, charming, and incredibly kind—everything I could have ever hoped for.
His warm grin and goofy quips could make me laugh even when I was upset. I felt whole.
However, as soon as Robert entered the bedroom, that happiness faltered. I was frozen by his apprehensive expression. There was a problem.
“What’s the matter?” As soon as I saw his troubled expression, I asked.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Robert paused. “I’m so sorry, Katherine, but I have to leave for a work trip.”
“What?” I said, my brow furrowing. “But our wedding is in two days.”
“I know,” he said, his voice quiet. “I promise I’ll be back in time. The night before the wedding, perhaps.
“Are you for real now? You’re abandoning me at this particular moment? I couldn’t help but speak sharper than I meant to.
With a groan, Robert took a step forward. If it weren’t vital, I wouldn’t go. Nothing should go wrong because everything is fully arranged. I’m sorry it’s happening this way, but I really have to go.”
“But why?” I enquired as my face began to heat up. I attempted to control my emotions, but words failed me.

Robert grabbed me into an embrace, hugging me strongly. “We have our entire lives ahead of us, and I hate to do this to you. Katherine, I will always be there for you.
“Are you going with anyone?” My voice was quieter now as I asked.
“Travis. That’s why it’s so crucial,” he stated. I recognised that Travis was his supervisor. I still wanted to let out a childlike scream. However, I swallowed it. After all, I was an adult.
After a long pause, I said, “Okay.” “However, consider how you’ll make this up to me while you’re away.”
Robert’s lips touched my forehead as he laughed softly. “All right,” he said. Then he turned and started to pack.
Robert folded his clothes and stuffed them in his bag, moving swiftly. I remained on the bed, silently observing him in the hopes that he would reconsider. I felt like I was getting farther away from each item he packed.
His airline tickets were lying on the edge of the bed when my gaze strayed there. I was drawn to the location.
I didn’t believe his business operated in that city. Perhaps they were growing, I reasoned, attempting to convince myself.
I led him to the door after he was done. He gave me a firm embrace, bid me farewell with a kiss, and walked away. Minutes later, my phone buzzed.
Seeing Travis’s name made my heart jump. Why was he calling? Had something happened to Robert?

“Hello? Is everything alright?” I asked, my voice quivering as I clutched the phone.
Travis calmly remarked, “Everything’s fine,” “I just wanted to let you know I won’t be able to make it to your wedding. I’ll be out of town on a business trip. But I’d still like to send you and Robert a gift. How can I get it to you?”
My stomach constricted. “Wait, Robert will be back by the wedding, right?” I asked, feeling a knot of confusion.
Travis remarked, “Katherine, I’m not sure what you mean,” with a perplexed tone. “This close to Robert’s wedding, I would never send him on a trip. Did he say I did?
I hesitated, unable to come up with a reply. “Oh, no. “I must have misinterpreted,” I blurted out. “I’ll let you know about the gift.”
Travis answered, “Okay,” in a hesitant tone. “Let me know if you need anything.” He hung up after that.
I quickly picked up my coat, wallet, and bag, leaving everything else behind. As I drove to the airport, my thoughts were racing.
I had been misled by Robert. I needed answers, but I wasn’t sure why. There was too much ambiguity.
As I purchased a ticket for his flight, my hands shook. Fortunately, seats were still available.

I felt like I was being watched by everyone at security as I struggled to take off my jacket and shoes.
After finishing, I put on eyeglasses and pulled my hair into a hood. I glanced around the waiting room before spotting him.
Robert was sitting close to the gate, looking at his phone with his head down. I positioned myself close enough to follow but far enough away to remain undetected.
I let him get on the plane first when it was called. I kept my distance and followed him onboard the plane, my heart racing.
I had to know the truth, even though I couldn’t believe I was doing this. The flight seemed to go on forever. I often wondered what Robert was thinking when he moved around in his seat.
I saw him again after we landed and went outside with him. He called for a cab, so I followed suit.
I urged my driver to “follow that car, but keep your distance,” and he nodded while giving me an inquisitive look. As we drove, my heart rate increased.
The vehicle came to a stop in front of a modest home in a peaceful area. I swiftly paid my driver after asking him to stop a few homes away.
I observed from behind a tree as Robert exited the cab. He knocked when he hesitated at the door.

I watched intently, holding my breath. A moment later, the door opened and a figure moved forward.
Although I couldn’t see who it was from behind the tree, their shadow caused my chest to constrict. Then, to my surprise, Robert entered.
I stood motionless for a moment. I gathered my courage and approached the home cautiously.
I peered through a nearby window, my breath hazing the glass while my hands trembled. I felt my knees buckle at what I witnessed.
Robert and an unfamiliar woman were seated inside. As he often did with me, he leaned in and gave her a hug.
As my heart broke into bits, tears streamed down my face and obscured my vision. I was unable to comprehend what I was witnessing.
I’m not sure how long I remained there, shivering and cold. I was brought back to reality by the sound of the front door opening.
I crouched low to remain unseen as I ducked into the bushes in panic. I watched Robert emerge from my hiding place, his face unreadable. Without turning around, he got into another taxi and drove off.

Pulling myself together, I emerged from my hiding place and went to the door. I lifted my hand to knock, my chest tight, my knees unsteady.
A few seconds later, the door was opened by the same woman I had seen before. She gave me a worried look, her eyes softening as she saw the tears running down my cheeks.
“How are you? How may I assist you? Her voice was calm as she asked gently.
My words hardly formed as I swallowed hard. I trembled as I said, “I’m Robert’s fiancée.” “In two days, I’m supposed to be his wife.”
She widened her eyes in surprise. “Oh,” she replied, reaching for the doorframe as though to regain her balance. “Please, come in.” She moved aside and gestured for me to come in.
She took me into the kitchen, got me a drink of water, and drew out a chair for me.
Slowly, with shaking hands, I took a drink. Across from me, she sat with a wary yet friendly face.
She said, “I know how this must look,” following a pause. “But it’s not what you think, I assure you. Liz is my name. Robert’s first love was me.
The remarks were like a kick to the gut. “That doesn’t make it better,” I said, holding the glass firmly. My mind was racing with bewilderment and rage.
With a steady tone, Liz leaned forward and sighed. “If you’re worried about him cheating on you, he didn’t do it. Robert wasn’t the same person you know today when he was younger.
“What do you mean?” My voice was sharper than I meant when I asked.
Simply put, “Our relationship wasn’t healthy,” Liz commented. He needed to work on certain aspects of himself. He came here to express regret.
“Sorry? Why now? Why before to our wedding? My chest tightened once more as I asked.
“Because he didn’t want to carry the weight of his mistakes into his future with you,” Liz replied. “He told me how much he loves you. In order to prevent it from affecting your life together, he sought to reconcile his past.
I trembled as I shook my head. “What kept him from telling me? Why tell lies?

Liz smiled at me, a little sympathetically. “Everyone carries some sort of burden. We share some and don’t share others. I currently have two children and a happy marriage. Robert spoke of you as if you were everything. You will bring each other joy. You and Robert will be happy together, even though we were never supposed to be.
Uncertain of how to react, I nodded slowly. I was given permission by Liz to stay till my flight.
When I met her family, I could see how much she loved her husband. It brought up memories of my feelings for Robert. I started to relax gradually.
I got home right before the first rays of morning appeared. A worried expression filled Robert’s face as he waited by the door. He drew me into a close embrace as soon as he spotted me.
His voice was tense as he said, “Katherine, where were you?” “I was really anxious. You didn’t pick up when I called you numerous times. I believed that something had occurred.

Uncertain of where to start, I hesitated. “It’s not “I’m at a loss for words,” I eventually confessed.
Robert took a small step back, keeping his grip on my shoulders. “All right, let me begin. “I told you a lie,” he said. “I wasn’t on a work trip—”
“I know,” I cut in while meeting his eyes.
With regret on his face, he nodded. “I apologise for lying. I swear I didn’t do anything wrong, but I should have told you.”
“I know,” I muttered. “And I’m sorry too.”
Robert scowled. “Why are you apologising?”

I answered, “Because I doubted you,” in a shaky voice. “After Travis called to let me know you weren’t with him, I followed you. I visited Liz’s home. I spoke with her. She gave a thorough explanation.
Robert’s expression grew softer. His words, “Katherine, I love you,” “Just you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”
A weight was lifted off my chest. “I understand. I remarked, reaching forward to give him a kiss, “I’m certain now.”
