Dog Saves Mother’s Life and Refuses to Leave Hospital Bed While Doctors Fought for Her Life

As medics struggle to save her mother’s life, a selfless dog lies on the hospital bed and won’t leave her side.

The 17-year-old girl who purchased a service puppy had no idea that the animal would eventually save her life.

When Shauna Darcy first brought Ruby into her home, she believed the puppy would help her deal with her agoraphobia, which is a severe dread of leaving one’s home, anxiety, and sadness.

Over time, Shauna came to understand that Ruby’s presence calmed her. With the pup’s assistance, the girl was able to complete her education. However, Shauna’s anxiousness returned after her school years, and she was unable to leave her house.

Shauna avoided going to see her family in Melbourne and missed birthdays and Christmases because of her nervousness. She simply lacked the bravery to leave her home.

With Ruby at her side, Shauna found some solace in overcoming her challenges. Keeping that in mind, she made the decision to introduce her pet to some formal training.

After having Ruby’s temperament evaluated and approved, the girl began training her even though she wasn’t sure if she was eligible to have an assistance dog.

After a few years, Shauna, who is now in her 20s, began to view Ruby as more than just her friend. The canine served as her “lifeline.”

Ruby refused to leave the room as the physicians worked tirelessly to stabilize her condition.
Ruby, who was trained to be an alert dog, often alerted her owner every five to ten minutes if she noticed any unexpected changes in her blood pressure or heart rate.

Ruby would give Shauna clues, such as abrupt pawing, that she would understand. If she consistently disregarded the warnings, the dog might occasionally run over her.

Ruby ultimately shown that she was more than just a service dog. Shauna went to the doctor after Ruby’s strange behavior indicated that something wasn’t right.

She discovered that she suffered from an uncommon illness known as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which is brought on by Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Shauna experienced persistent pain and exhaustion due to the severity of her health condition.

Before Shauna even realized what was wrong, Ruby had a feeling. After that, the dog began managing Shauna’s heart problems by regularly checking her blood pressure and pulse rate.

The dog brought her emergency medicine and assisted her throughout panic attacks. In addition, Ruby helped her mom reach for things she couldn’t, picked up dropped objects, and carried groceries.

Because Ruby had received deep pressure therapy training, she would put all of her pressure on her mother and lick her face and hands until she came to.

Ruby once informed Shauna about an emergency that she was unaware of. Shauna was feeling fine at that point and didn’t know why Ruby was acting strangely. She made the quick decision to contact an ambulance because she trusted her dog.

Ruby’s mother was in excruciating pain and had gradually lost consciousness when the paramedics came. After the medical staff hurried her to the hospital, they discovered that she was experiencing atrial fibrillation, which is a fast, irregular heartbeat known as an arrhythmia.

That day, Shauna came to the realization that Ruby had saved her life. Ruby refused to leave the room as the physicians worked tirelessly to stabilize her condition. The puppy remained on her mother’s bed, cuddled against her, even while she was unconscious.

Many people came to meet Ruby while they were there. Shauna told The Feed her story, saying:

Without Ruby, I don’t know what my life would be like. When I’m upset, she’s there. She doesn’t criticize me while I’m ill.

The dog gained a special following among bystanders who were amazed by her devotion to her owner and praised her for saving her mother. Shauna and Ruby, her cherished service dog, are now well-known everywhere they travel.

Shauna’s life would not have been the same without Ruby. Every day, the dog ensures her mother’s well-being and safety, and Shauna is incredibly thankful for Ruby’s presence.

“Without her, I wouldn’t be here,” Shauna said.
