There has been a tribute made by Morgan Freeman to his close friend Gene Hackman.
Morgan Freeman delivered an emotional speech paying respect to Gene Hackman at the 97th Academy Awards. The speech was a moving tribute to Hackman.
Gene Hackman, together with his wife Betsy Arakawa, who was 63 years old, was discovered dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Wednesday (February 26). The 97th Academy Awards paid tribute to Gene Hackman.
According to the information contained in the search warrant that was issued for their deaths, the authorities are treating the deaths as “suspicious enough” to warrant additional investigation.
The sheriff’s office has stated that it does not have any suspicions of foul play, as they have not discovered any evidence of ‘external trauma’ on their bodies; nonetheless, they have not yet entirely ruled out the possibility of foul play.
It was Morgan Freeman who was in charge of the tributes at the Academy Awards. The two of them had been together in the legendary film Unforgiven, which was released in 1992.
One of the last parts that Hackman would do in Hollywood before retiring was in the film Under Suspicion, which was released in the year 2000. Freeman and Hackman worked together once again on this project.
The following is how Freeman started his address, as reported by Variety: “This week, our community lost a giant.” And a great friend of mine, Gene Hackman, passed away. During the production of two films, Unforgiven and Under Suspicion, I had the excellent opportunity to collaborate with Gene. I discovered that he was a giving performer and a man whose gifts boosted everyone’s work, just like everyone else who had ever shared a scene with him.
On a regular basis, Gene would say, “I don’t think about legacy. All I want is for people to remember me as someone who made an effort to produce quality work.
“When I say, ‘Gene, you will be remembered for that, and so much more,’ I believe that I am speaking for all of us. My friend, may you finally find rest.
In the days that have passed after the actor’s passing, a statement has been issued by Hackman’s daughters, Elizabeth and Leslie, as well as his granddaughter, Annie.
In an interview with the New York Post, they expressed their sorrow by saying, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman, and his wife, Betsy.”
“Despite the fact that he was respected and liked by millions of people all over the world for his outstanding acting career, to us he was always just our father and grandfather.
“He will be greatly missed, and our hearts are broken by the news of his passing.”
During the course of the investigation into the deaths, the Santa Fe City Fire Department has ruled out the possibility of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning. This is due to the fact that they discovered no traces of either of these at the residence.
After conducting checks on the gas line and in the surrounding area of the residence, the New Mexico Gas Company also discovered no indications of this kind of thing.
