In a recent exclusive interview, Brad Pitt finally spoke out regarding the terms of his divorce from Angelina Jolie. Despite their brief marriage, they have six children together.
The actor, who was born in Oklahoma, was asked if life felt any different now that the divorce was officially over.
“No, it wasn’t a big deal, in my opinion. Just anything that’s happening. legally.
Eight years after it started, Pitt and Jolie’s protracted and difficult divorce was finally finalised. On December 30, 2024, the two reached a settlement, which Jolie’s legal team acknowledged.
After deciding to divorce Pitt, Jolie distanced herself from their life together and focused on raising the children. In a statement, her lawyer James Simon described the trip:

“She has been concentrating on finding peace and healing for their family ever since she and the kids left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt. […] To be honest, Angelina is worn out, but she is glad that this particular phase is done.
More information about Jolie’s strategy subtly surfaced as that chapter came to an end. In an interview, a person close to the two-time Academy Award winner revealed:
“She never criticises [Pitt] in public or in private. She has been making a concerted effort to be light after a period of darkness.
The humanitarian said nothing about her ex-husband, but behind closed doors, things became more complicated. The reasons for the drawn-out court proceedings became evident once she concentrated on getting better with her kids.
In an interview, New York City-based divorce attorney James J. Sexton clarified that divorce can become quite complex, particularly when children or joint ventures are involved. “There’s almost no limit to how many things you can fight about,” he said.

Pitt and Jolie enjoyed a happy, family-oriented existence together before to the legal issues. Together, they are parents to twins Knox and Vivienne, as well as Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh. They were married in a modest ceremony in France in August 2014, following nine years of dating.
Two years prior, they had experienced a happy occasion that led to their wedding. The next stage of their relationship before their ultimate marriage was marked in 2012 when Jolie unveiled a unique engagement ring that Pitt had created.
Serious issues quickly replaced that happy period. After two years of marriage, Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016 on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

She sought Pitt to have visitation rights and petitioned for physical custody of their children. She simply asked for joint legal custody, not joint physical custody.
Jolie was dissatisfied with Pitt’s parenting style, according to people familiar with the matter. According to them, she was worried about his marijuana usage, potential alcohol consumption, and what she thought were anger management problems. Because of her worries, she thought the kids weren’t in a safe environment.

Robert Offer, her then-attorney, said she made the choice for the family’s well-being. Jolie, who is defended by divorce attorney Laura Wasser, did not request spousal support, and there was no other party involved.
Following a flight that she described as extremely distressing for her and the kids, the Los Angeles native decided to dissolve the marriage.
During that trip on September 14, 2016, according to FBI records, the actress said Pitt screamed at her, seized her head, shook her and pushed her against a restroom wall.

During the argument, the filmmaker also said he hit the roof of the aircraft. She clarified that their kids, who were then eight to fifteen years old, were afraid. One of them allegedly hurried towards the child after calling the film producer a derogatory name.
Jolie claimed that in order to stop him, she intervened and grabbed him by the neck. The actor allegedly slammed her into the seats in retaliation, injuring her elbow and back.
The two decided to take a different approach to forward the procedure after the flight was linked to severe concerns.

In a joint statement, Pitt and Jolie explained that they had decided to resolve their divorce issues amicably.
In order to keep all legal proceedings secret and out of the public eye, they chose to hire a private judge.
According to the statement, both parties and their solicitors executed agreements to safeguard the family’s and their children’s privacy. There was a clear message at the end:

“The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.”
They made a commitment to cooperate during a stressful time. In records submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court at the time, the ex-partners had been exchanging severe claims. Nevertheless, they both decided to keep any private information about their kids.
Behind the scenes, progress proceeded as they sought to safeguard the privacy of their children. Pitt and Jolie’s divorce was bifurcated, which means the court distinguished between the dissolution of their marriage and the remaining legal matters.

Both of them were officially proclaimed single in 2019. Since then, Pitt has been dating Ines de Ramon, a Los Angeles-based jewellery executive. The 2024 British Grand Prix marked the couple’s first public appearance together.
The eight-year divorce process between Pitt and Angelina Jolie was characterised by public claims and custody disputes. Serious charges, including one involving a private jet incident, were part of the process.

Nevertheless, both committed to maintaining the privacy of their children’s affairs. Parts of the case were resolved more quickly because to legal actions like bifurcation.
Now that the deal has been finalised, they may formally move on.
