He brought love, caring, and respect to our group and enhanced our lives. Without his bright grin and close relationship, we’re not sure how we’ll manage. Col, you are loved. Peace be with you.

Colin was a beloved band member whose contributions helped create the Bee Gees’ signature sound. He rose to international prominence as a child performer before playing a key role in the Bee Gees. He was born in Kingaroy, Queensland, Australia.

Starring parts in the classic 1956 Australian film “Smiley” as well as other foreign productions like “The Scamp” (1957) and “A Cry From the Streets” (1958) were part of his early acting career. By the time he was a teenager, Colin had turned his attention to music, and he went on to become the fourth formal member of the Bee Gees and its drummer.

The Bee Gees’ distinctive sound was largely shaped by his drumming, which can be heard on four of their albums and multiple #1 successes, such as “Massachusetts,” “To Love Somebody,” and “I Started a Joke.”

“It’s wonderful that these incredible songs live on through the Best of the Bee Gees, and I am thrilled to add another dimension by sharing my memories,” Colin said in reference to his legacy.

ibed Colin as “a much loved ‘family’ member of the troupe, holding our audiences spellbound with his stories of the lead role in the iconic Australian film “Smiley,” as the drummer in the original Bee Gees, and performing with the Best of the Bee Gees regularly for the last five years.”

According to manager Greg Shaw, “He was adored both on and off stage because of his charming personality and unabashed storytelling, which brought fresh viewpoints to the shows.” Being able to call him a friend was an honor.

Evan Webster, a bandmate, continued, “Colin’s arrival to our group was a blessing to all of us. Years of laughter and song [traveling] across the nation were spent together. He lived among us with dignity and grace and was such a wonderful gentleman. He will always be remembered.

Fans also conveyed their appreciation and sadness. One fan commented, “I was thrilled to see Smiley in the Bee Gees tribute band many years after I grew up loving him and his films. The night’s high point was Colin/Smiley, who had amazing talent.Rest in peace.

Colin, who played at the band’s 2023 silver anniversary tribute show, rose to prominence in recent years. Fans and friends alike will never forget his contributions to music and cinema.

As they work through this challenging period, many people continue to think about Colin’s family, which includes his wife Joanne and kids Jaime and Ben.

The British brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb founded the Bee Gees in 1958, and they went on to become one of the most famous and popular bands in music history.

The 1977 “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack, which included classic classics like “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “More Than a Woman,” was the pinnacle of their ascent to global prominence. The band’s early success was greatly influenced by Colin, who was the original drummer.

There have been both victories and setbacks along the Bee Gees’ path. Before undergoing abdominal surgery to clear an intestinal obstruction, the band’s bassist and co-vocalist, Maurice Gibb, suffered a heart attack and passed away on January 12, 2003, at the age of 53. At the time, his family issued a statement saying, “His love, enthusiasm, and energy for life remain an inspiration to all of us.”

After a lengthy fight with cancer, Robin Gibb died on May 20, 2012, at the age of 62. At the time, his spokesman said, “The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery.”

Alongside Barry and Maurice, Robin contributed his unique vocal and songwriting skills, which helped the group become well-known throughout the world.

The only surviving member of the original Bee Gees is Barry Gibb, who is currently 78 years old. The renowned singer-songwriter still treasures his brothers’ and comrades’ legacy.

The 45-year veteran musician and record producer has been married to his wife, Linda, since 1970 and has five kids. He continues to share snippets of his personal and professional lives on social media and in his music.

He shared a flashback picture of himself and Linda along with a poignant message on September 17th, thanking fans for their love and support.

Unquestionably, the Bee Gees have left a lasting impression on the history of music. The untimely death of Colin “Smiley” Petersen is a heartbreaking reminder of the skill, zeal, and commitment that drove the group’s incredible journey.

Colin’s legacy endures as fans honor his life, not only because of the timeless music he contributed to creating but also because of the innumerable lives he touched with his creativity and soul.
