Ellen DeGeneres Moves to UK for Good, Says ‘Everything Is Better Here’
According to Ellen DeGeneres, she and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, have formally established the United Kingdom as their permanent residence.

They had originally just intended to reside in the UK sometimes, but they have now made the decision to remain permanently.
The 67-year-old former talk show host revealed that she and Portia relocated to the Cotswolds in 2024 following the cancellation of her long-running daytime show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in 2022.
She had just finished her last U.S. stand-up comedy tour when this occurred.

What started off as a short-term move evolved into a permanent way of life.
One of the primary reasons they stayed, according to Ellen, was the tranquility and slower pace of life in the Cotswolds.
She and Portia have been enjoying a lot easier and more laid-back lifestyle since they moved.
Ellen gave a speech at an event organized by broadcaster Richard Bacon in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, during her first public appearance in the United Kingdom.
She disclosed that if same-sex marriage rules in the US are changed, she and Portia are considering reaffirming their vows or getting legally wedded in the UK.

According to Ellen, the American Baptist Church is attempting to outlaw homosexual marriage.
They are trying to prevent it from happening further and may perhaps reverse it completely.
I’m already weighing my alternatives with Portia.
We intend to get married here in the UK if that occurs.
Her remarks coincide with growing anxiety that the right to same-sex marriage in the US may soon be contested or eliminated.

Ellen was also questioned about if her decision to remain in the UK was impacted by former President Donald Trump’s second time in power.
“Yes,” was her straightforward response.
“We came here the day before the election,” she clarified.
We woke up the following morning to messages from friends that were laden with emojis of tears.
I recognized then that he had triumphed once more.
And we just said, “We’re staying here,” after exchanging glances.
Ellen has been posting snippets of her rural life on social media since moving to the UK.
She and Portia reside in a home in the country, surrounded by beautiful scenery and animals.

“It’s breathtaking,” Ellen remarked.
“This type of beauty is not something we see every day.
Everything is incredibly wonderful, including the antique houses, tiny towns, and villages.
Simply said, life is easier here.
She also discussed how much more courteous and considerate people are in the UK.
“This place is cleaner.
It’s a better experience all around, with people being kinder and animals receiving better treatment.
November marked the couple’s official move, however Ellen acknowledged that the cold weather made it unsuitable for settling down.
However, there was a bright side to even that.

She remarked, “I saw snow for the first time in my life.”
“We adore this place.
We also had sheep for approximately two weeks, and Portia even flew her horses over. I currently have chickens.
Shortly after The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended due to claims of a terrible workplace culture behind the scenes, Ellen made her move.
Since 2003, the program had played a significant role in daytime television until ending in controversy.
Ellen attempted to address the issues and apologized on-air during the last season.
She has since discussed how she was depicted in the media amid the affair.

“Every article that was published had the headline, ‘She’s mean,'” she claimed.
I was at a loss for how to react without coming across as whiny or victimizing.
However, I still felt compelled to speak up.
“I’m just someone who speaks honestly and directly,” Ellen went on.
I’m not a sugarcoater.
Perhaps some individuals perceive that as being cruel.
