When Love Turns into a Nightmare

Just two days before her wedding, what was supposed to be a celebration of love and commitment turned into a terrifying event for one woman. She joyfully accepted her fiancé’s proposal eight months ago, and they got to work preparing their intimate wedding while dreaming of a future together.

The woman had to deal with an unbelievable request from her soon-to-be spouse as the big day drew near. He requested that his father inspect her hymen in front of male relatives to certify her virginity. She was shocked and horrified, thinking it was a joke at first, but to her dismay, he was being serious. To make sure the bride was pure, his family customarily performed these tests the evening before the wedding.

It makes sense that the woman was dubious and reluctant to comply with this intrusive and degrading request. She took solace at a friend’s house as she thought over her choice. She plucked up the strength the next morning to tell her fiancé that she was refusing. She was very clear that he had to accept her decision and that she would not submit to such a demeaning ceremony.

The fiancé charged her with lying about being a virgin, instead of appreciating her viewpoint and providing encouragement. The discussion turned into a furious dispute that resulted in an unexpected and startling change of events. When she refused to back down, the man used physical force, giving her a slap.

Disappointed and heartbroken, the woman came to the realisation that the man she had assumed to be her friend was not who she had expected him to be. She made the difficult choice to call off the wedding and end the relationship. The woman found the aftermath to be a trying time, and she turned to friends for comfort and guidance as she worked through her feelings and started the healing process.

This genuine story serves as a sobering reminder that respect and understanding are not always guaranteed by love. It begs the question: In such a circumstance, how would you respond?
