Grandson Believes His Grandmother Left Him Just an Urn of Ashes, Until the Urn Breaks One Day.

You may turn to your loved one one day and, like Hugo, find yourself in an empty space with remorse. His late grandmother Rosemary was a street sweeper, and he was constantly embarrassed of her. After she passed away, he only received an urn of ashes, which he broke on the ground, thus condemning her.
Hugo, a guitarist who was 25 years old, felt uncomfortable when he got to his late grandmother Rosemary’s cabin. His memories of the run-down old house were very different from his life in New York at the time.
He spoke seriously, “Grandma,” through tense lips. He took a stroll around her modest home and looked at the pictures of their early years together, apologising to the sky for missing her funeral. All they accomplished was evoke sad memories of his behaviour and demeanour.

Back then, he felt ashamed of her work as a street sweeper. He felt embarrassed about his behaviour towards her now.

“Hugo, sweetheart, move aside. Exercise caution. Be careful! When she would take him to school, she would remind him, but he would never listen.

His fingertips found the ancient study table she had given him, the one he had so readily discarded. “Grandma, this ancient object? Really? Hugo had made fun of. He wanted a game console, but his grandmother couldnโ€™t afford it.

Hugo made fun of Rosemary’s best recipes as being inventive since she couldn’t afford anything expensive as he made his way to the kitchen. However, he was an inquisitive youngster who constantly demanded more.

She made an effort to smile. “Honey bee, next time!” Rosemary would swear. However, she was unable to satisfy him, and he became resentful of her. It was unfortunate that he didn’t realise how ungrateful he was for so long.

He went inside her bedroom, which was cluttered with antiques, such as a wooden cot and a garment she was creating for him that wasn’t quite finished.

How amazing, Grandma! How certain were you, on a ten-point scale, that I would see you after all these years? Hugo shook his head, contemplating.

Outfitsโ€ฆ Another recollection from his history came to mindโ€”the eight-year-old prom incident. He clearly desired something eye-catching and had fondly eyed an ostentatious suit in a boutique, but he was also resentful of his grandma for being impoverished.

Hugo went home and slammed his room door after being taunted at school since kids knew he couldn’t afford a nice suit for prom.

“Please open the door, honey bee.” Is she a female? Did she say no to your proposal, or what? With a soothing yet worried voice, Rosemary had knocked.

However, he was not interested in interacting with her at that time. He yelled into his pillow, frustrated at their financial circumstances.

Rosemary was frightened and alone herself at the table when Hugo declined to join her for supper that evening. She hustled to make a decent breakfast the next day, but he dismissed her and hurried off.

As Hugo strolled inside the old house of his grandmother, his memories persisted to plague him. His face flushed red with humiliation as he remembered an incident in which his buddies had made fun of Rosemary while she was at work. As a result, he snapped at them.

“People, please stop talking! Please stop talking!โ€ he had yelled, attempting to turn away.

Rosemary approached Hugo with cookies, not realising he had been humiliated. “This way, my son,” she said.

He yelled, “I don’t want these damn things!” and lost control of his outburst. He denigrated their entire life together, her career, and her. “Grandma, stop! Enough of your gestures. Iโ€™m very ashamed of you!โ€

Hugo had noticed the deep pain he had caused her, particularly the sag in her shoulders as he left. But Rosemary had a plan. She had enough money saved up to purchase the pricey suit he desired.

When they got home that same day, it was waiting for him. “H-How did you know that this was what I wanted?” Hugo inquired, surprised.”You were glancing at it outside the boutique, I noticed! Rosemary had remarked, her smile increasing the creases on her cheeks, “I worked overtime every day to afford it.”

โ€œOh, Grandma, I love youโ€ฆI adore you incredibly! he had gushed, breathless and overwhelmed. He gave her the largest hug, but that delight didnโ€™t last long.

Rosemary, dressed in her nicest gear, had joyfully prepared to accompany Hugo to prom. He started laughing and choked on his own spit when she said she was going to go with him. “To the prom? Are you kidding me, Grandma?” he exclaimed. “Not in a way!”

She’d tried, but he’d crushed her heart again.A few weeks later, Rosemary dressed to impress and she and her coworkers went to the school for Hugo’s graduation. When Hugo noticed that so many people were supporting him, he bought off the security guard so he could not let them in.

Hugo only had time to witness Rosemary and the other sanitation workers being led away; he left to be with his buddies despite the cries and pleas.

When Rosemary got back home, she made Hugo’s favourite meals to commemorate his early birthday and graduation. But Hugo ignored the food when he came. “Grandma, why did you come to my school?” he insisted.

Hugo’s tirade was obvious, even though she was perplexed. For trying to embarrass him in front of his friends and their affluent families, he chastised her and her colleagues. “At my graduation, you almost destroyed my reputation!” Hugo pointed his finger at her and accused.Hugo left his grandma despite her pleadings a few days later on his 18th birthday, determined to follow his aspirations of becoming a singer in the big city. His communication with her gradually decreased over the years until it ended completely.

Due to his music tour, Hugo was unable to visit Rosemary when she became unwell. She died by herself, and he didn’t find out until much later. He was thinking about all he couldn’t take back when he returned to her home.

A knock cut through his wistful recollections. Simon, Rosemary’s neighbour, arrived carrying a letter for Hugo and an urn. After skimming it, he learned that she desired for her ashes to be dispersed around the ocean. He rolled his eyes, feeling that it was a major hassle.

However, the neighbour also possessed Sunny, Rosemary’s dog. He intended to leave him because it was another duty he didn’t want.He looked all over the cottage for any hidden jewels, but he couldn’t locate any, so he thought cruelly about Rosemary’s life. Observe yourself, Grandma! After years of cleaning and sweeping the streets, what did you earn? Nothing! What did you leave me, then? Nothing! All that remains of you is an urn! Fantastic!,” he spat into the void, knowing that he was even more angry with himself.

After spending the night, he began investigating the attic the following day. There he discovered a box with small trinkets and an old diary. Sunny’s barking at a rodent interrupted him just as he was about to start reading it.

While attempting to soothe Sunny, he unintentionally knocked over his grandmother Rosemary’s urn from a neighbouring table. It was then that he found a locket buried in the dirt.

Hugo, puzzled but intrigued, asked Simon for advice. He disclosed that Rosemary had told him to place the locket in the urn, citing it as a memento of her past.

Curious, Hugo went back to the cottage and started reading his grandmother’s diary, which took him back to Rosemary’s early years. Hugo could not help but pat Sunny’s head as he read next to him.

A young Rosemary saw a wealthy woman named Anna and her son Henry arrive at the orphanage where she lived in the spring of 1949 while she was playing outside. She would later discover their family were huge benefactors to the church that sponsored this group home.

She had tried to take Anna’s lovely red scarf back then, but Henry had caught her.

“Is my mother’s scarf somewhere?” Henry’s mother was chatting with other adults when he made his demand. Rosemary insisted she didn’t take it, but he went on, “Liar! It was stolen by you. I watched you go off with it. Return it to me!

Rosemary began to cry, drawing the attention of a nun and Anna. “Hey, what’s wrong?” “Why are you crying?” inquired the elegant woman.

“Your scarf was stolen by her, Mama. Henry said, “I saw her running with it.”Rosemary was given the scarf to keep by Anna, who sympathised with her. Henry folded his arms and pouted as Rosemary stuck her tongue out at him. However, the hostility wouldn’t endure long.

Surprisingly, Henry and Rosemary became best friends, because to that encounter. However, when he was ready to go for London, Henry declared his love for Rosemary and asked her to marry him when they became 18 and 17.

Will you be mine, Rosie? he enquired. She hesitated, gazing down at their favourite beach’s golden sand.

“You’re my pal, Henry! With the wind ruffling her hair, she whispered gently, “I’ve never seen you differently.”

He gave a nod. “Rosie, I will continue to wait for you. For however long it takes!

After leaving for London, Henry promised to bring her a Teddy bear and love notes in the upcoming months.Hugo discovered Rosemary’s diary was empty when he flipped the page. The only other item in the diary was an old, unpostmarked envelope with the name “Henry” and an address on it.

Hugo had to hear the remainder of their story, so he went in search of Henry with Sunny, the woman he had come to love, and purchased a new urn to hold Rosemary’s ashes. “Looks like we’re in this together, Sunny, my old friend! Shall we discover Grandma’s mysteries together?” he said.

After many bus travels, hotel stays, and hitchhikes, Hugo and Sunny finally found themselves outside the enormous estate in the unknown city where Henry was said to reside.

But the right address was given to Hugo by an older man. Hugo found an elderly Henry when he arrived at a small property about an hour away from the ocean with a rose garden.Henry’s harsh voice broke through the atmosphere before Hugo could say anything. “Hey, you hear me? You’re not getting any of my roses. “Leave my property!” he growled.

Sunny became agitated and began to bark in Hugo’s defence.

“Leave now, or I’ll call the co-“

“I’m the grandson of Rosemary!” Hugo closed one eye as if bracing himself for a blow and blurted.

The elderly man’s mouth fell open. Rose, Rose, Rosemary’sโ€ฆ With wet eyes, Henry stammered. “Enter now! Enter now!

Hugo went inside and saw that Rosemary’s favourite trinkets were scattered across the house. Henry beckoned him to have a seat in front of a warm fireplace on his mismatched chairs. Hugo also gave an explanation of his visit by displaying Henry Rosemary’s diary, his love letters to her, and her unsent letter. He also explained to the elderly man how he came to know of him. Henry sighed and bemoaned, “Oh, Rosie, why weren’t you back? “Why did you leave me?” he asked, reaching out to touch the old souvenirs.

Henry started to cry even more when Hugo pulled out the locket containing their photos. He questioned, “What happened after you left for London?”

Rosemary had stopped writing to him, the old man admitted with a sniff and a little, broken voice. He was informed she had moved away and didn’t love him when he got back from London.

Henry was devastated and had a lonely existence. “My heart was stolen by Rosie forever, just like the red scarf she took,” he remarked, taking a handkerchief out of his pocket to wipe his face.In addition, he claimed that once his parents passed away, he sold everything and relocated to this charming little home close to the orphanage Rosemary attended. Unaware that she had passed away, Henry continued to cry while the handkerchief muffled the sound.

Henry, perhaps your parents told you lies. Grandma truly loved you, so why would she leave you? Hugo tilted his head and said, “Perhaps they told her to stay away from you because she was poor.” “Are you aware of the whereabouts of this locket? within her urn.

Hugo showed Henry the urn after taking it out of his backpack. He touched the elderly man’s shoulder and remarked, “Your Rosemary hasn’t gone anywhere.” She is directly in front of you.I believe it’s time to part ways.

After giving a nod, Henry cleaned his face with the cloth once again and escorted him to their favourite beach, which is close by. They dispersed her ashes jointly to the sound of the waves and seagulls.Hugo went back to his normal life a few days later, with Sunny by his side, but he started writing songs about his grandmother, informing the world about her long-lost love with Henry and pleading for her pardon.

It was his best-known piece of work and seemed to be an attempt at making up to Rosemary for the terrible child he had been.

Hugo sprinkled Henry’s ashes at the same beach after he passed away a year later. He sang one of his hits and murmured, “Now, you can be together.”
