“I Found a Hidden Door in My Cellar and I Think I’ve Made a Big Mistake Opening It”

After living in an older house for a number of years, a couple eventually made the decision to undertake renovations to their wine cellar.

An unsettling discovery was made by them when they were in the process of remodelling their wine cellar and discovered a door that was hidden from view.

A horrifying tale of what started off as a remodelling project in the cellar of their Victorian terrace house, in which they resided with their wife, was uploaded by a user on Reddit in October of 2016.

Initially, the Original Poster (OP) and their spouse, who had been living in their house for around five years, had the intention of converting their cellar, which was rarely utilised, into a miniature fitness centre.

After moving into the property for the first time, the couple’s cellar was where they stored some of their things as well as wine. “[…] My wife liked the idea of telling people we had a ‘wine cellar’ but it got annoying going down there every time so we stopped using it,” the OP added.

It was not necessary for them to use the cellar as a storage space because they were the only people living there.

On one of the weekends, the couple made the decision to clean it up. During the process of removing vintage floral wallpaper that had become yellow, they discovered a hidden door that had been incorporated into the wall in a seamless manner.

The couple, whose curiosity was stirred, initially believed that the door led to the cellar of their neighbour, which is a frequent architectural element among the terraced houses on their street.

In addition to that, they intended to inform their neighbour about the doorway the next morning. The individual in question stated that they did not feel relaxed about having that kind of access point in their house.

On the other hand, before to having a conversation with their neighbour, OP’s wife peeked through the small round hole in the door, which was where the door handle had been torn away.

However, due to the fact that it was too dark, she was unable to see through it well. The OP recalled: “In order to have a better look through the hole, we used the torch that was on her phone because we are curious. My wife was the first to look. She ceased moving all of a sudden.”

Upon closer study, they discovered a set of stone steps that led down to yet another door, which was a direct challenge to their expectations.

As she slowly stepped back from the door, OP’s wife made a remark, “This does not go into the cellar of the next door.” Her husband grimaced during the entire process.

Even though OP had discussed with his wife the possibility of first chatting to their neighbour, he made the decision to go on his own out of curiosity.

After she had departed, OP descended the stone stairs in order to investigate what was hidden behind the very old wooden door.

This concrete area, which was devoid of any other exits, was where OP came face to face with a mystery figure who defied explanation. Oh, the OP recalled:

“I waved the torch around and nearly jumped out of my skin.”

The presence of the figure, which was clothed in a black suit and a black-rimmed hat, was unsettling.

It was standing still with its back turned, and it was dressed in black. The following is how the individual characterised the situation: “There was a man standing at the back wall, facing the wall, with his back to me.”

As soon as the figure started approaching towards OP in an odd and backward fashion, the relationship between them swiftly became more intense. At the moment when the man started to move, his foot slammed into the floor. The OP verbalised:

“The sound shook me out of my frozen state and I jumped back.”

The individual revealed that they had never saw a person move in such a manner before, which caused them to feel terrified. As OP ran out in a state of panic, they made sure to close all of the doors behind them, including the door that went to the cellar.

“I hesitated by the door, barricading it with my arm, trying to control my breathing and understand what I’d just witnessed,” the OP explained.

When OP was inside the house, he heard the sound of the door in the cellar opening, and he also heard “what sounded like a huge lump of flesh dragging along the floor.”

Another thing that happened was that OP heard a low hissing noise, and he hurried out of the house while shouting the name of his wife.

While she was on the front step of the neighbor’s house having a conversation with him, OP dragged her away from the conversation.

However, prior to informing them of what had transpired, OP contacted the authorities. As the three of them stood there, looking at their house, OP noticed that the lights were flickering until they went out altogether.

This occurred while they were waiting for the authorities to arrive.

During the time that the three of them were waiting for the law enforcement officials to come at their residence, OP remembers clutching the spouse’s hand very firmly while they peered at the dark windows of their home.

Even though a comprehensive investigation was conducted, there was no evidence of the figure uncovered, which has resulted in more questions than answers.

During their investigation of the concealed room, the authorities discovered evidence of what seemed to be dried blood from a long time ago as well as symbols that had been carved into the concrete.
