Millionaire Accidentally Learns His Elderly Mother Lives in Old Abandoned Hothouse

Through a TV news report, a millionaire learns that his elderly mother, with whom he is separated, has been residing in an old, abandoned hothouse. He learns more about his family’s history than he had previously realised after learning about her.

The 57-year-old millionaire Michael Howard made the decision not to start a family of his own. Though he had always dreamed of being married and having children, his upbringing prevented him from following that aspiration.

Michael dedicated all of his time to growing his career rather than attempting to settle down. He was a workaholic, and his company’s success throughout the years is evidence that his diligence was rewarded.

Michael was able to obtain his mother’s hothouse address with the help of the journalist. When he arrived in a hurry, what he saw devastated him.

The hothouse was covered in vines and constructed of stained glass. The interior was extremely hot, with just plants providing shade from the intense sunlight.

Michael entered and discovered that Tess had used a metal saucepan and charcoal to create her own improvised kitchen. An old mattress lay on the floor, and she arranged her small possessions on a shelf that had once held plants.

Tess saw Michael inside the hothouse after a short while. She said, “Can I help you?” to him. It was then that she saw Michael’s birthmark on his neck.

“My son had the exact identical birthmark on his neck. It would be instantly recognisable to me. Son, is that you? The elderly woman broke down in tears.

Even though Michael could feel tears welling up in his eyes, he made every effort to keep them from dropping. “Hi, mum,” he said softly.

“How have you been, my son?” Tess enquired. “How long has it been?”

Michael gave a shrug. “Mom, I have no idea. Too much time has passed. I was shocked to learn that you had been residing here when I watched your news segment on TV. To check if it was true, I came here.”

Michael was given an old wooden stool by Tess to sit on. As they sat there, she asked, “Would you allow me to share my story, Michael?” Michael nodded his head silently.

Tess began, “I’m sorry I never found you again, Michael.” “I want you to know the truth about me before it’s too late; I’m not sure what your dad told you. I’m becoming older and I’m not sure how long I have left.

“I discovered that back in the day, your father had an affair with his secretary. If he didn’t leave her, I threatened to take you away,” Tess disclosed. Ultimately, he reversed the situation with me. He used the accusation that I was having an affair against me in court. You two moved out of the city after he was granted custody of you,” she wept.

Michael was hearing things that he couldn’t believe. Part of him wanted to ask his father if Tess was telling the truth, and part of him wanted to cry.

“I had nothing once you two departed. I had no family, no work, and nowhere to live. I had to return home to live with my parents. All I had was that house, which was destroyed by that terrible earthquake. I never had the chance to fix it since I lacked the necessary funds. I thus searched the town for a place to stay and came across this hothouse,” the woman said.

“I’m so sorry, Mom,” Michael sobbed. “I had no idea that this was the experience you had. It all makes sense now, even though Dad told me a completely different story. He told her, “I knew you wouldn’t leave us, but he made me think you did.”

Tess gave a head nod. “It’s okay, young man. Your dad had his motives. Although it hurts, over the years I’ve learnt to slowly let it go. The fact that you are here now is what matters, and I’m so glad to see you!” She remarked, throwing up her arms to give Michael a hug.

Tess would never have to be alone again, Michael assured her. Together, they left the hothouse, and he led her to his mansion.

After she was comfortable, they went to the mall and got her everything she required. The fact that Tess was in his life motivated Michael to perform better. He made time for his personal life and stopped immersing himself in his career.

Michael once ran into Mia, a charming single mother with two adorable kids, at church with his mother. Following a few encounters, Michael came to the realisation that he was in love and chose to give it a shot.

Michael’s family has expanded since then. After getting married, Michael formally adopted Mia’s two kids. Being surrounded by people she loved and appreciated much made Tess glad to be a grandmother.
