Over the Rainbow: A Timeless Classic

Millions of people have adored “Over the Rainbow” for generations, and it will always be a favorite song. Composer Harold Arlen and lyricist Yip Harburg originally composed this famous song for the 1939 motion picture The Wizard of Oz, but it has since been used for purposes beyond that.

Judy Garland, who portrayed Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, performed the song. Her moving performance of “Over the Rainbow” during Dorothy’s dream of a better paradise “somewhere over the rainbow”

touched viewers’ hearts and became one of the most moving and unforgettable scenes in movie history. After winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the song has come to be associated with the movie.

One of the most cherished performances of this ageless masterpiece was made by Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, who during a late-night session in 1988 gave a moving performance on his beloved ukulele. Milan Bertosa, a recording engineer, recounted a special meeting he had with Kamakawiwo’ole.

He got a call in the middle of the night from a man who wanted to record a song. “And in walks the largest human being I had seen in my life,” stated Bertosa. “I then set up some microphones, quickly check the sound, roll tape, and he starts off with ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow.’

” After one take of his song and performance, he ended it.” The song has become legendary since Kamakawiwo’ole’s performance, which combines “Over the Rainbow” with “What a Wonderful World,” resonated with audiences worldwide and introduced the song to new generations.

The song’s timeless beauty has brought it into many movies, TV series, and live performances throughout the years. It’s a good song to listen to during emotional times of reflection because of its moving melody and upbeat lyrics.

However, because of the technical requirements and unique vocal skills it calls for, many musicians are afraid to perform this masterpiece live. Given the range and dramatic strength required, performing the song in a way that honors its original beauty can be quite difficult.

Occasionally, though, a truly exceptional artist steps forward to enthrall us with their performance. One such memorable occasion was when eleven-year-old Anna appeared on The Voice Kids.

Anna’s performance was so amazing that it not only won over the judges but also everyone’s hearts with her strong voice and unflinching confidence. There was no denying Anna’s star quality and exquisite voice—she was destined for fame.

Her rendition exemplified the song “Over the Rainbow’s” enduring appeal and was genuinely captivating.

Anna’s performance reminds us why “Over the Rainbow” is still a well-loved classic. People of all ages may relate to its universal themes of hope and longing, and its lovely melody never fails to uplift and inspire.
