Cissy Houston, Mother of Whitney Houston, Passes Away — Heartbreaking Details Unveiled

Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s Mother, Passes Away — Details Revealed
A close cousin revealed that the matriarch of the Houston family, who gave birth to a timeless pop icon and worked with legends throughout her career, passed peacefully at home.

According to her daughter-in-law Pat Houston, Cissy Houston, the well-known artist and mother of the late pop icon Whitney Houston, passed away early on October 7 at her New Jersey home while undergoing hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease. Cissy was ninety-one years old.

Cissy’s family was around her when she passed away. “We feel anguish and pain in our hearts. We have lost the family matriarch,” Pat stated in an Associated Press statement.

Pat recalled her mother-in-law as “a strong and towering figure” who was devoted to her family, her ministry, and her community. She also listed her contributions to popular culture and music as “unparalleled.”

Pat said, “Her more than seven-decade career in music and entertainment will remain at the forefront of our hearts.” Two-time Grammy winner Cissy was well-known for her collaborations with music icons such as Elvis Presley, the King of Rock & Roll, and Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul.

As word of her passing spread, family members started to post condolences. One was from Bobby Brown, a musician for New Edition and Whitney’s ex-husband.

In their condolence message, Bobby and his current spouse, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, said, “My deepest sympathies and best wishes go out to the Houston family during this difficult time. I hope she rests in power and peace. The Browns.

The Houston family has also thanked the public for their support during this trying time. The family, Pat said, is “blessed and grateful” for the many years they had with Cissy. They have asked for privacy while they process their loss.

One notable aspect of Cissy’s legacy is her extraordinary musical career. Her career took off in the 1960s when she joined The Sweet Inspirations, a well-known backup group that sang alongside big soul performers like Otis Redding and Dionne Warwick. She had originally earned notice in a family gospel group.

Among Cissy’s noteworthy credits are Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man,” Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl,” Aretha Franklin’s “Think” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Her voice can be heard on more than 600 albums with musicians like Beyoncé, Luther Vandross, and Chaka Khan.

Cissy was a published author in addition to her music career; she left behind a very intimate biography that was devoted to her late daughter Whitney.

“Remembering Whitney: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Night the Music Stopped,” her 2013 memoir, depicted Whitney as a devoted musician and professional who appreciated her accomplishments, as well as a loving daughter, sister, and mother.

Cissy had a tight relationship with Whitney, lovingly referring to the late pop singer as “Nippy,” her childhood nickname. She went on to say, “I love my sons, but Nippy was the youngest, and a girl, and she was my heart.” Whitney was very dear to her.

In 2012, Whitney’s body was discovered in a hotel bathtub. The coroner for Los Angeles County concluded that the cause of her death was unintentional drowning, with a contributing factor being substance misuse and heart disease. In Fairview Cemetery in New Jersey, she was buried.

Following her daughter’s passing, Cissy believed that a lot of the news reports about the deceased pop diva were inaccurate. She was inspired to write her memoir by this. “I was reading things that weren’t true, and that’s when I decided that I needed to do something,” she explained.

“She made a lot of mistakes, but so many people have made mistakes, and haven’t been treated like that — with people talking about them, saying hurtful things that are or aren’t true,” Cissy continued, emphasizing that she wanted people to understand how a “wonderful, giving person” Whitney was. I’m merely attempting to correct everyone.”

Cissy was open about her affections for Bobby, Whitney’s ex-husband, as well. Her hubby wasn’t a good fit for her, in my opinion. I’ll say it again, as I have in the past,” she declared.

Cissy’s role as a loving mother outweighed her star status, despite the triumphs and setbacks in her family. Her love, faith, and strength will never go away and will always be an inspiration.
