Fans Speculate This Star Is the Front-Runner for the 2025 Best Actress Oscar

Users Predict This Star Will Win the 2025 Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role

As the Academy announces its Oscar nominees, social media users are supporting a Brazilian actress who won the Golden Globes and referring to her as a top candidate.

The Academy’s announcement of the Actress in a Leading Role category nominations has sparked intense discussions and conflicting feelings among fans as Oscar season returns.

Cynthia Erivo, who is nominated for “Wicked,” For “Emilia Pérez,” Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, “Anora,” “The Substance,” and “I’m Still Here” (“Ainda Estou Aqui”), Demi Moore, and Fernanda Torres, respectively.

Torres, 59, is one of the nominees who has received a lot of notice for her performance in “I’m Still Here.” The film, which is set in Brazil in 1971 during the harsh rule of a military dictatorship, centres on Eunice Paiva, a mother who must start over after an act of senseless violence destroys her family’s lives.

As the Paiva matriarch, Torres and her mother, the 95-year-old actress Fernanda Montenegro, give a strong picture of fortitude and tenacity.

Selton Mello, Valentina Herszage, Marjorie Estiano, Maria Manoella, Bárbara Luz, Antonio Saboia, Humberto Carrão, and Maeve Jinkings are among the ensemble cast members of the movie.

Fans are supporting the Brazilian actress on social media as a result of the movie and Torres’ performance. “And the Oscar goes to FERNANDA TORRES [sic],” said one fervent admirer, highlighting their post with emojis of the Brazilian flag. “Fernanda Torres as Best Actress!!!” cried a second.

“OMG FERNANDA TORRES MADE THE LIST,” said another admirer, urging people to check out her film. Give ‘Im Still Here’ a chance [sic] and don’t be scared of subtitles as guys.

“I’m not Brazilian, but I’ve been observing how they are passionately campaigning for Fernanda online, and it’s really amazing,” another fan remarked. The only reason I went to Brazil was to see “Ainda Estou Aqui” in theatres. Fernanda is extraordinary. I have never seen an actress more deserving of an Oscar.

Support for Torres as the front-runner was expressed by one fan, while another cited her performance and film as important components of this year’s Oscars excitement.

Support for other nominations varied, although some fans bemoaned the omissions. “Where are Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Pamela Anderson? One person commented, “I’d love to see Demi get it out of this group.” Another said, “Where’s Angelina Jolie????” in frustration.

One internet user voiced dissatisfaction about Angelina Jolie’s exclusion from the Oscars, citing her role in “Maria.”

Torres’s journey, which was influenced by her close relationship to her mother, one of Brazil’s most famous actors, stood out as fans discussed the omissions and shocks.

Although she downplayed her hopes, Torres called the possibility of receiving an Oscar nomination “a big victory” in an interview with The New York Times in December 2024. “If I got there, following my mother,” she remarked of Montenegro, “it would be an incredible story.” “Now, winning — I consider it impossible.”

When Montenegro played a letter writer for the illiterate in Walter Salles’s iconic Brazilian film “Central Station,” 25 years ago, she became the first Brazilian actress to receive an Academy Award nomination.

Even though Gwyneth Paltrow won in the end, Brazil will always remember what many considered to be a major snub.

Torres remarked, “It had great symbolism for Brazil,” as she considered her mother’s momentous accomplishment. She described the event as profoundly significant and beautiful, emphasising how her mother’s candidacy demonstrated Brazil’s capacity to generate extraordinary talent.

In “I’m Still Here,” where Montenegro and Torres play the same character in a film that has profoundly affected Brazil, the mother-daughter relationship comes full circle. This holds great personal significance for Montenegro, who described it as “a really special moment.”

By taking home Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for her performance in the 2024 movie, Torres further boosted her momentum at the 2018 Golden Globes.

She defeated a formidable group of nominations, which included Tilda Swinton for “The Room Next Door,” Nicole Kidman for “Babygirl,” Pamela Anderson for “Showgirl,” and Kate Winslet for “Lee.”

Moore, another Oscar candidate, was also honoured at the Golden Globes, where she took home the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy award for “The Substance.”

Zendaya for “Challengers,” Amy Adams for “Nightbitch,” and fellow Oscar candidates Erivo, Gascón, and Madison were all defeated by her outstanding performance.

Torres and Moore’s Golden Globe victories have kept internet users giddy with expectation, which has increased the level of excitement leading up to this year’s Oscars.
